Is ID.me the only way to log into my account IRS.gov?

That is the only way to access your online account as of now.

Follow these directions exactly and you'll get in. If you have moved or changed your name in the last year use the old name and address. If your driver's license has expired don't waste your time until you renew it. This is assuming you've never attempted to log in at all.

irs.gov>sign in to my account>sign in to my online account>create a new account with id.me>only use a phone number you can receive calls and texts on and an email you can actually log into... double check and make sure you can log into the email account you use. Write down the email address and password you use to create the id.me account.

Then follow the prompts. It's way easier to use a phone and a laptop or tablet having 2 simplifies things. When you see this option appears choose self service. When it prompts you to take a pic of your driver's license don't, you want to upload a pic of the front and back of your DL you already have stored on your phone. It will reject it once. Upload the exact same pic again and it will take it. Provided you can read the actual DL in the pic. Wipe your lens clean and use some sort of lighting but not enough to create a glare.

If you touch your phones screen in the center right before taking the pic it forces it to clear up. If you ever get lost just go back to IRS.gov>sign in to my account>sign in to my online account only this time choose the green button. You only create the account once after that you log in using it. Even if you didn't complete the steps it still took it, you can only create one. When you get to the biometric data part make sure your head fills the outlined circle and no talking while it's scanning. Follow each step you'll be in before you know it.
