Received a 5071C letter for my 2022 return, but I can't find my 1040 or any record of filing through H&R Block, Turbo Tax, or FreeTaxUSA. How can I locate my 1040 or confirm the filing service I used?
Answered on October 07,2023
Checking your email account is the only thing I can think of at this point. If you used a different software there should be emails when you set up the account.
Unless you went to a tax preparer, you should have an email or be able to access the return online through the software provider you used.
I think you might just need to do your 2022 return again and send it in with the identity theft affidavit if you can't find evidence that you submitted a return yourself. Unfortunately that is taking over a year to get processed for a lot of people.
I have heard of people's tax software accounts getting hacked and people using the personal information to file fraudulent returns. You should probably go in and change the passwords on all the accounts you have with the tax software companies just to be safe.
