The Balika Samriddhi Yojana is launched by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India to raise the overall status of the girl-child and bring about a positive change in family and community attitudes.
Beneficiaries of Balika Samriddhi Yojana
Two girl children from a family who are below poverty line are the beneficiaries of this scheme.
Objectives of the Balika Samriddhi Yojana
Following are the objectives of the Balika Samriddhi Yojana.

To change negative family and community attitudes towards the girl child.

To improve enrolment and selection of girl children in schools

To raise the age at marriage of girls.

To assist the girl to undertake income-generating activities.
Benefits of Balika Samridhi Yojana
Following are the benefits of Balika Samridhi Yojana.

Rs. 500 as a grant amount after birth.

Annual scholarships for girls born on/after 15th of August, 1997, and with registration under BSY.

Scholarship amounts will be Rs. 300 for each class (per annum) between Classes I-III. They will be Rs. 500 for Class IV and Rs. 600 for Class V alongside.

Scholarship amounts will be Rs. 700 for every class between Classes VI-VII and Rs. 800 for Class VIII.

They will be Rs. 1,000 for Classes IX to X.
Eligibility Criteria for applying Balika Samridhi Yojana
Following are the eligibility criteria for applying Balika Samridhi Yojana.

The girl children must belong to families who are below poverty line (BPL) as defined by the Government of India, in rural areas and urban areas who are born on or after 15th August 1997.

Benefits under BSY will be restricted to two girl children in each household born on or after 15.8.97 irrespective of the total number of children in the household

How to apply for Balika Samridhi Yojana?
- Obtain the application form from Anganwadi workers (in rural areas) or Health functionaries (in urban areas).

The candidates can download the application form online from the official website. (Note: There are separate application forms available for urban areas and rural areas).

Submit the completed application form to respective functionaries from where the application forms are obtained.

Deposit of Benefits Admissible

The amount received from post-birth and an annual scholarship for attending school shall be deposited in an interest-bearing account to be opened in the name of the beneficiary girl child and an officer designated in this behalf by the State Govt. in the nearest bank or post office (whichever maximum rate of interest).

To ensure that the maximum possible rate of interest is earned on the deposits of the benefits, no pre-mature withdrawal shall be permitted from the account which will mature on the girl child attaining the age of 18 years.

On the girl attaining 18 years of age and on the production of a certificate from the Gram Panchayat / Municipality that she is unmarried on her 18th birthday, the implementing agency would authorize the bank or post office authorities concerned to allow her to withdraw the matured amount standing in her name in the interest-bearing account.

In the event of the girl getting married before attaining the age of 18 years, she shall forgo the benefit of the amounts of annual scholarships and the interest accrued thereon and shall entitle only to the post-birth grant amount of Rs.500/- and the interest accrued thereon. In such an event, the implementing agency shall be entitled to withdraw the value of the matured deposit amount and interest accrued thereon and utilize this fund to sanction the benefits under this scheme to other eligible girl children.

In the event of the girl child's death before attaining the age of 18 years, the accumulated amount in her account would be withdrawn by the implementing agency for payment to other eligible beneficiaries under BSY.
