A birth certificate is the most important identity document that makes it possible for anyone in possession of it to benefit from a gamut of services offered by the UAE Government to its citizens.

It becomes necessary to obtain a Birth Certificate because it serves to establish the date and fact of one's birth for a whole range of purposes, like admission to schools and to the Government Service, claiming the right to marry at the legally permissible age, settlement of inheritance and property rights, and obtaining Government-issued identity documents like a driving license or passport.

This procedure will provide you with steps that are involved in obtaining a birth certificate in UAE.

Documents Required to get Birth Certificate for UAE nationals

Following documents are required to get Birth Certificate for UAE nationals.

  • The birth notification is stamped and certified by the hospital where the delivery took place.

  • The marriage contract must be certified and a copy of it.

  • Valid identity card and passport for the parents and a copy thereof.

  • Citizens: Original summary of the registration and a copy of them taking into account that the page where the name of the wife.

  • Attendance of the concerned person (and the concerned person or a first degree relative) or his representative.

For out-of-hospital births, in addition to the above documents, the following are required:

  • A letter from the court stating that delivery took place at home, including the place and date of birth and parents' names.

In case of birth abroad, in addition to the above, the following documents are required:

  • Birth certificate attested by the UAE embassy in the country of birth and the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs

  • Newborn passport with the entry stamp

  • A letter from the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship with a statement of No Objection to the replacement of the birth certificate issued abroad with a birth certificate issued in the UAE

If a child is born of an inmate of a punitive and correctional institution, the following documents are required:

  • Letter from punitive and correctional establishment.

  • Original birth notification.

  • Mother's passport or a letter from the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs.

  • Record from court stating the names of the mother and child, and the date and place of birth.

  • Completed application form.

If any of these documents are not available, the matter will be referred to the competent committee concerned with the birth registration of newborns through the Department of Social Services, together with the following documents:.

  • Report or letter from the Department of Social Services.

  • Identity papers of the mother, if known.

  • Birth notification in case of hospital delivery.

  • Record from the court stating the child’s name.

How to apply for Birth Certificate for UAE nationals?

You can apply for Birth Certificate in Dubai through any of the following ways.

  • Mabrouk Ma Yak Package
  • MoHAP Website
  • Public Health Centers and Government Hospitals under Emirates Health Services (EHS)

When applying through the Mabrouk Ma Yak Package:

  • Submit application in the e-system.
  • Pay the certificate issuance fee and the application will be sent to the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship.

When applying through MoHAP Website:

  • Visit MoHAP website
  • If you have not registered register in the portal.
  • A message will be sent to your e-mail asking you to confirm your account by clicking on the link.
  • Log in to the birth and death system.
  • Click on Birth Notifications
  • Click on Request New Birth Certificate
  • User must enter the “Qaid Number” and either the “Mother Date of Birth” or the “Father Date of Birth” in the fields to retrieve the record.
  • The user will be redirected to “Request Certificate Details” page, this page will let the user view the data which have been entered by the hospital user along with the uploaded attachments.
  • Fill the “Arabic Name” and the “English Name” of the baby
  • Make the payment.

When applying through public health center or hospital:

  • Submit the application through the e-system and pay the fee.
  • Once the documents and original copies are verified, the birth certificate will be issued.
  • Receipt of the certificate by the person concerned or a representative.

You will receive the Birth Certificate in 1 working day.

Fee to obtain Birth Certificate for UAE nationals

Application fee: AED 65 (including e-Dirham charge) for a certificate in Arabic and AED 65 for a certificate in English (If requested)
