How to get certificate of fitness in West Bengal ?

Under the provisions of the M.V. Act, 1988 the registration of vehicle is treated as valid only if the vehicle has a valid certificate of fitness.

The transport vehicles i.e Commercial vehicles require a valid Certificate of Fitness along with the registration certificate. Under the provisions of The M.V. Act, the registration of vehicle is treated as valid only if the vehicle have valid certificate of fitness.

Validity of Fitness Certificate

In case of Transport vehicles the fitness certificates is valid for 2 years in case of new vehicle and subsequently it is renewed for one year.

Where to approach for fitness of vehicles in West Bengal?

The motor vehicle office where it is registered or is going to be registered is to be approached. The vehicle will be inspected by Motor Vehicle Inspector (Technical) at the time of first registration and subsequent fitness for its road worthiness.

REMEMBER : To drive vehicle without fitness certificate is an offence and the vehicle is treated as not validly registered.

Documents Required for renewal of certificate of fitness

 Documents required for renewal of COF are:

  1. Registration certificate.
  2. Form CFA.
  3. Old C.O.F.

Self-attested copies of valid Tax Token/Insurance Certificate/Pollution under control certificate.

  2. Any other document as may be required by Registering Authority.
