Patta is a land revenue record which establishes the title/ ownership of land in Tamil Nadu. The Patta Register is maintained at Taluk office and contains ownership details of all Land holdings. Patta contains entries relating to ownership and extent of the land holding. Patta is always issued in hectares/acres for village properties.
Chitta is an extract from Patta register that gives ownership details of land that belong to a person or persons. The specific information that Patta/ Chitta extract contains include Village, Taluk, District, Land Owner’s name with Father’s name, Patta number, Survey Number with sub-division details.
A - Register is a record of the land held at the VAO's office (Village Administrative Officer) in Tamil Nadu. It has details on the property such as it's classification, tax assessment, owner's name, etc. The ‘A’ register contained details of land while 'Chitta' was a record of ownership and 'Adangal' stored details of tenancy and cultivation.The ‘A’ register and 'Chitta' contain information required for the issue of documents like Records of Rights (ROR) to the public.
Adangal is the extract from A- Register, maintained at VAO's office. Adangal records provide more details about type of land and purpose of land. The Adangal extract contains information like Survey Number wise holdings, field area, tenancy details, crops & cultivation details etc.The 'Adangal' register is maintained at the village level and contains information on utilisation of each subdivision of land, including crop related details
TSLR means Town Survey Land Record. Field extract or town survey land extract act as the revenue land records for land in Tamil nadu. They are the equivalent of patta issued in municipalities and town areas.
Patta Chitta Details

- Land Details
This section consists of several columns comprising the following details:

Survey Number – A unique number assigned to a particular piece of land for its physical identification.

Sub Division Number – It is a number showing the sub division of a particular survey number.

- Cultivation & Crop details
- This section comprises Year, Season, Cultivator's name, Cultivator's place of residence, Cultivation type, Extent of land under cultivation, Category-wise land utilization and its extent, Name of crops grown, Extent of land under crops, Water source, Yield and Details of mixed crops.
