How to Get Police Clearance Certificate in India from US?

Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) is issued to Indian Passport holders in case they have applied for Residential Status, Employment or Long term visa or for immigration. PCC cannot be issued for persons going abroad on Tourist Visa.

How to Apply for PCC in India from the US (for Indian citizens)?

Follow the below steps to apply for PCC in India from the US.

• Visit Passport Seva at Indian Embassies and Consulates website.

• Select the ‘AMERICAS’ in the region/country section.

• Select ‘USA’ from the countries given below.

• You will be directed to a new page to apply.

• Click on ‘Register’.

• Enter the required details.

• Now click on "User Login" and login with the registered login ID and Password.

• In the Applicant Home Page, click on "Police Clearance Certificate" to file a new application

• After successful submission,take a printout of the online submitted form

• Visit the respective Application Processing Centre/Embassy/Consulate along with required supporting documents

Print the filled application form and submit in person at the respective Embassy/ Consulate of India along with the following documents and photocopies thereof:

• Duly filled in and signed PCC Application Form.

• Applicant's valid passport in original and self-attested photocopy pages containing personal particulars of the applicant.

• For Indian passport holders: Self-attested photocopy of the passport page containing valid Work Permit or Residence Permit Card.

• Passport size color photograph.

How to Track Status of PCC for Indians from America?

Follow the below steps to track the status of the Police Clearance Certificate for Indians residing outside India.

• Visit Passport Seva at Indian Embassies and Consulates website

• Select the region/country from where you have applied for PCC. 

• Now a new tab of Passport Seva website will be opened.

• Click on "Track Status".

• Enter Application Reference Number.

• Enter Date of Birth

• Enter Characters Displayed

• Click on "Track Application Status" to track the status of the application.

How to Apply for PCC in India from the US (for US Citizens)?

In order to apply for a police clearance certificate in India from the US (for US citizens), the individual needs to visit the Indian Embassy in their state with all the required documents and application form. They can also apply through post with all the required documents and details alongwith the application fee to the Embassy office of their state.

• Download the Miscellaneous Application form. Fill and sign the application form. In case of those who can not sign, provide a thumb impression (Right Hand Thumb Impression for female and left hand thumb impression for male). Each applicant is required to fill up a separate Miscellaneous Application form and affix his/her recent passport size photograph.

• Applicants have to download and fill the entry/exit form

Validity of a Police Clearance Certificate

A police clearance certificate is valid for 6 months.
