Prabuddha scheme provides financial assistance to the students in Karnataka for pursuing Graduation, Masters level courses and PhD abroad in the Universities /Institutions as notified by the government under the scheme in the following specified fields of study

Benefits of Prabuddha Scheme in Karnataka
Administered by the Department of Social Welfare, the Prabuddha scheme will allow students from SC, ST and other vulnerable communities to pursue their undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD programmes in international universities at little or no cost.
The Prabuddha scheme will cover the student’s course fees, living expenditure and airfare to the country in which the student is pursuing their studies. Moreover, there will be a 33 percent reservation for scholarships catering to women candidates and a four percent reservation for differently-abled students every year.
Eligibility Criteria of Prabuddha Scheme in Karnataka

The candidate shall be a citizen of India and a permanent resident of Karnataka.

Students who belong to SC, ST and other vulnerable communities in Karnataka
-
In the case of PhD and PG courses the maximum age is 35 (thirty-five) years, and in the case of UG the maximum age is 21 years as on the first day of the month of the notification published.

Minimum Educational Qualification
-
For pursuing PhD:- 55% marks or equivalent grade in relevant qualifying master’s Degree
-
For pursuing Masters's Degree:- 55% marks or equivalent grade in relevant qualifying Bachelor’s Degree exams.

For pursuing Bachelor's Degree (UG):- 80% marks or equivalent grade in relevant qualifying exams (PUC/ 12th classes). Preference will be given to the students who studied in Social Welfare Department Hostels/ KARNATAKA RESIDENTIAL EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS SOCIETY hostels/students of Government Colleges. If the required number of candidates are not available from these Categories then the opportunity will be given to other students.

- Applying candidates must have obtained an Unconditional Offer Letter only from foreign universities/institutions that are ranked within the overall Global Ranking 325 published in QS world Ranking & US news.
Income Ceiling
The scheme will cover up to:
-
100 percent of education expenses for students whose annual family income is less than Rs 8 lakhs
-
50 percent of the expenses of students, whose family income is more than Rs 8 lakhs but less than Rs 15 lakhs
-
33 percent of the expenses of students, whose annual income exceeds Rs 15 lakhs.
