Complete Guide on SOURA Subsidy KSEB Scheme
SOURA Subsidy scheme is initiated by KSEB for domestic consumers. As part of this scheme, the consumers can install solar panels over the roof of their homes. There are 2 models as mentioned below.
Consumers can express their interest for installation in any of these models now. Since Kerala has been allocated only 50 MW under this scheme, KSEB will be closing this scheme once it receives 75,000 applications.
Model I of KSEB SOURA Subsidy scheme
In this subsidy initiative, KSEB introduces three hybrid models which is based on the average electricity consumption of the consumers and it aims to give financial support to the weaker section thereby making them green energy partner of the state.
Consumer pays only a part of the total implementation cost of the solar panel. The other part is borne by KSEBL. You will be eligible for a part of the energy generated from the plant-based on your investment. Based on your average monthly electricity consumption you can choose from the three options.
Eligibility Criteria: All domestic consumers with average monthly consumption up to 200 units are eligible for this project.
Plant Capacity: Solar Plant Capacity should be 2kWp or 3kWp
Economical: You will always get at least twice the return for your investment
Fees: Application Fee of INR 1000 + GST
Model II of KSEB SOURA Subsidy scheme
Consumer owns the solar plant and can consume entire energy generated from the solar plant. You can claim up to 40% of the plant cost as a subsidy based on your solar plant capacity. See the table below.
Eligibility Criteria: All domestic consumers are eligible for this project.
Plant Capacity: Minimum Plant Capacity should be 2kWp
Economical: You can claim upto 40% of the plant cost as subsidy based on your solar plant capacity.
Fees: Application Fee of INR 1000 + GST

The amount paid for KSEB Soura scheme is refundable, provided that KSEB find it technically not feasible to set up solarpanel in your home.

For installing a minimum solar plant capacity of 2 kWp, 200 sq.ft. is required.
You can change the model. While inspection, if it is technically not feasible to be done by one model, you can choose another model.
1 kw requires 100 sqft. So you can install 10kw of solar panel on 1000 sqft rooftop. With 10 kw plant, you will get around 40 units of electricity per day. So you can take 1200 units per month.
For 1 kWp, it is around INR 50000 - 54000. So for 2 kWp, it might be around INR 1 lakh. If you are opting for model 2,you will get a subsidy of 40% as well. So you need to pay only INR 60000 for Model 2.
KSEB will do the maintenance through an empanelled service provider. KSEB will provide a list of empanelled service providers. Consumers can select one from the list of empanelled service providers. In Model 1, maintenance will be done for 25 years and for Model 2, maintenance will be done for 5 years.
You can register for any of the models now. After inspection, based on technical feasibility, you have the option to choose Model 1 or 2 of KSEB Soura scheme.
Yes, KSEB will provide money to excess electricity in Model 2 by the month of September every year.
For 1 kw, it is around 50000-54000. So for 3 kw, it might come around INR 1.5 lakh. If the consumer is opting for Model 2, then he will get 40% subsidy. So the consumer has to pay around INR 90,000 for the project.
In Off-Grid, you have the need for a battery. But KSEB's projects are On-Grid and in it, there is no need for a battery. The excess energy will be transfer to the grid.
It will cost you Rs 1,62,000. If you opt for Model 2, you get 40% of it as the subsidy.So you need to pay around INR 1 lakh only.
In model 2, every year amount will be adjusted on September 30. If there is an export of electricity, the amount will be paid in cash.
You have to pay the labour charge for replacing the Soura solar panel.
It can be done in Model 2,at the customer's expense,with 40% subsidy.
