രജിസ്‌ട്രേഷൻ നടപടികളിൽ ധന നിശ്ചയത്തെയാണ് 'SETTLEMENT' എന്ന് പറയുന്നത്. ഒരു വ്യക്തി, അയാളുടെ അച്ഛൻ, അമ്മ, മുത്തച്ഛൻ, മുത്തശ്ശി, ഭാര്യ,ഭർത്താവ്,മകൻ, മകൾ, സഹോദരൻ , സഹോദരി ,പേരക്കുട്ടികൾ ,ദത്തുപുത്രൻ/ദത്തുപുത്രി ,എന്നിവർക്കോ അവരുടെ നിയമാനുസൃത അവകാശികൾക്കോ രേഖാമൂലം നൽകുന്ന ദാനത്തെയാണ് ധന നിശ്ചയം (Settlement ) എന്ന് സാധാരണയായി പറയുന്നത്. വിവാഹ ബന്ധങ്ങളോടനുബന്ധിച്ച രജിസ്‌ട്രേഷനും ധന നിശ്ചയമായാണ് നടത്തുന്നത്. 1959 ലെ കേരള സ്റ്റാമ്പ് ആക്ടിലെ വകുപ്പ് 2 (q) ലാണ് ധനനിശ്ചയത്തെ കുറിച്ച് പ്രതിപാദിക്കുന്നത്.
