Aadhaar Card

Aadhaar (UID) is a 12 digit unique number which helps you to verify your identity all over the country. Apart from serving the purpose of verification, aadhar also helps individual to open new bank accounts, get new sim connections, get rail/bus tickets booked online etc. All your details are taken for the enrolment of UID number which includes your address, state, city, contact number, retinal scan, finger prints etc.

Eligibility Criteria

All the residents of India including infants are eligible for aadhaar cards. Government of India has also provided the facility for NRI's and foreign citizens with foreign citizenships, but residing in India to get aadhar cards.

Documents Required

Supported Proof of Identity (PoI) Documents Containing Name and Photo

  • Passport.

  • PAN card.

  • Either Ration or PDS Photo card.

  • Voter Identification card.

  • Driving licence of the applicant.

  • Photo identification cards issued by the Government of India.

  • Service photo ID cards that is issued by the PSU.

  • Job card of NREGS.

  • Photo identification that is issued by some Recognised Educational Institution.

  • Licence of Arms.

  • Photo Bank ATM card.

  • Photo Credit card.

  • Photo card of the Pensioner.

  • Photo card of the Freedom Fighter.

  • Photo Passbook of Kisan.

  • Photo card of CGHS.

  • Certificate of Marriage.

  • Document containing proof of marriage of the applicant issued originally by the marriage Registrar.

  • Legally approved name change certificate

  • ECHS Photo card.

  • Residing Address card of the applicant that contains both the name and photo that was originally issued by the Department of Posts.

  • Identity Certificate containing the photo of the applicant on a proper letterhead and is issued by either the Gazetted Officer or the Tehsildar.

  • Handicapped medical certificate or a disability Identification card.

Supported proof of address (POA) Documents

  • Passport.

  • Statement of bank in which the applicant holds an account.

  • Passbook of bank where the applicant is an account-holder.

  • Account statement or passbook of the Post Office.

  • Ration Card.

  • Voter Identification card.

  • Driving licence of the applicant.

  • Photo identification cards issued by the Government.

  • PSU issued Service photo ID card.

  • Previous 3 months’ electricity bill.

  • Water bill as long as it is not more than 3 months’ old.

  • Previous three months’ landline bill related to telephone.

  • Receipt showing the Property Tax of the last 3 months.

  • Last three months’ Credit Card statement.

  • Insurance policy.

  • Photo and a letter signed by bank on letterhead.

  • Signed letter and photo on the letterhead of the company issued by the registered office.

  • Photo and signed letter issued by a well-known educational enterprise on their letterhead.

  • Job card of NREGS.

  • Arms licence.

  • Pensioner card.

  • Freedom fighter card.

  • Kisan passbook.

  • CGHS card.

  • ECHS card.

  • Address certificate along with a photo on their letterhead that is issued either by an MP, MLA, Gazetted Officer or Tehsildar.

  • Address Certificate issued by the Village Panchayat head or any authority equivalent to them for rural areas.

  • Assessment order of the Income Tax.

  • Registration certificate of vehicle.

  • Registered agreement for sale, lease or rent of the applicant’s residential address.

  • Photo and address card by the Department of Posts.

  • Caste and Domicile certificate along with a photo that the State Government has issued.

  • Previous 3 month’s bill of gas connection. Either a handicapped medical certificate or a disability Identification card that is issued by either a State Government, UT Government or any Administrations

  • Spouse’s or partner’s passport.

  • For minors, parents’ passport is required.

Supported Proof of Date of Birth (DOB) documents

  • Certificate of birth.

  • Certificate or SSLC Book.

  • Passport of the applicant.

  • Date of birth Certificate on their letterhead issued by either the Tehsildar or the Gazetted Officer.

Aadhaar Enrollment

First, you need to visit the nearest enrolment centre from your home carrying your identification documents originals or photo stated ones (they should be attested). At the enrolment centre, you will be asked to give all your details like address, state, city, contact numbers and finger prints, retinal scan to the operator. You will receive an acknowledgement slip after all the process has been done. After you have received the acknowledgement slip, all your processes has been completed and the remaining processes has to be performed by Unique Identification Authority Of India.

Blue Aadhaar

Blue coloured Aadhar card , known as Baal Aadhaar card, is for children below the age of 5 years. For 'Baal Aadhar' card, the child's birth certificate and Aadhaar card number of one of the parents are required. Biometrics are not developed for children before 5 years of age. Hence, a child's Aadhaar data does not include biometric info like fingerprints and Iris scan. Once the child crosses 5, biometrics need to be updated

The process to get Aadhaar card for your child.

  • Visit the enrolment centre and fill out the enrolment form.

  • Provide the child's birth certificate. One of the parents must also provide their Aadhaar card number for authentication purposes.

  • Provide a mobile number

  • As the age of the applicant is below five years, no biometrics will be recorded. Biometrics should be updated after the child reaches the age of five and then again at the age of 15 years.

  • A photograph of your child will be clicked.

  • Child's 'Aadhaar' will be linked to the Aadhaar card number of his/her parents

  • After confirmation, collect an acknowledgment slip.

  • Once the registration and verification process has been completed, an SMS will be sent to the registered mobile number. Within 60 days of receiving this message, the Aadhaar card will number be issued to the newborn child.

Track Status

Follow the below steps to track the status of Aadhar card.

  • A new window to check Aadhar Status will be opened.

  • Enrollment ID can be obtained from the acknowledgment slip that you have received at the time of aadhar enrollment. The top of your acknowledgement slip contains 14 digit enrolment number (1234/12345/12345) and the 14 digit date and time (dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm:ss) of enrolment. These 28 digits together form your Enrolment ID (EID).

  • Enter Security Code.

  • Click on "Check Status" to check whether your aadhar card is generated or not.

Update Mobile Number in Aadhaar

In order to update mobile number in Aadhaar, you need to provide your Biometric Authentication. So it cannot be done online. For updating mobile number, you need to visit the nearest Aadhar Service Centre.

  • Visit your nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre. You can find nearest aadhaar service centre from here.

  • Fill the Aadhaar update form to change your mobile number on Aadhar. You can also download Aadhar update form and fill it before reaching the office.

  • Enter only your current mobile number in the form.You need not mention your previous mobile number. You do not have to provide any proof for updating your mobile number.

  • Enrollment officer takes your biometrics to authenticate your identity

  • Officer hands over the acknowledgment slip containing URN to you

  • The URN can be used to check the status of aadhar online.

  • You have to pay a fee of INR 50/- to the executive

  • Your mobile number will be updated in Aadhaar within 90 days

  • For Update of Mobile number/Email ID, the notification will be sent on the given mobile number/email ID.

  • If you have valid address proof click on “Update Address” else click on “Request for Address Validation Letter”

  • Enter the text verification code in the box and click on Send OTP or Enter TOTP

  • An OTP will be sent to the mobile number registered with Aadhaar. Enter this OTP to login to your Aadhaar account

  • Tick the Address option and click on the Submit button

  • Enter your residential address mentioned in the Proof of Address (PoA) and click on the “Submit Update Request” button.

  • Review the changes that you have made. In case you want to modify your address again, click the “Modify” option.Now tick the declaration and click on the “Proceed” button

  • Select the document type you want to submit as PoA for verification and upload the scanned copy of the address proof and click on the “Submit” button

  • Click on the “Yes” button and select the BPO service provider that will verify your details and click on Submit.

  • At the end of submission, a URN or Update Request Number will be issued.

  • The URN can be used to check the status of aadhar online.

  • Your address will be updated in Aadhaar within 90 days.

  • After updation, Aadhaar letter with updates will be delivered at the given address. You can also  Download Aadhaar” from  UIDAI website
