The government of Telangana as a part of its social safety net strategy introduced the Aasara pensions in November 2014 intending to ensure a secure and dignified life for all the poor. This scheme is meant to protect the most vulnerable sections of society in particular the old and infirm; people with HIV-AIDS, widows, incapacitated weavers and toddy tappers, who have lost their means of livelihood with growing age, to support their day to day minimum needs to be required to lead a life of dignity and social security.

Benefits of Aasara Pension Scheme in Telangana

Aasara pensions intend to provide substantial financial benefits to all the above categories, particularly those who are most needy. The following table provides the per month pension amount of different categories of pensioners.

Eligibility Criteria

Two criteria need to be satisfied to obtain the Aasara pension scheme.

  • Age Criteria

  • Socio Economic Criteria

Age Criteria

Following age criteria should be satisfied by different categories of pensioners to avail Aasara pension.

Socio Economic Criteria

Aasara pensions are meant only for disadvantaged families who, in old age or upon being widowed have no earning member in the family.

The persons belonging to the households fulfilling one or more of the following conditions and whose annual household income is more than Rs.1.50 lakhs in Rural areas and Rs.2.00 lakhs in Urban areas listed below shall not be eligible for Social Security Pensions:

  • Having land more than 3.0 acres wet / irrigated dry or 7.5 acres dry

  • Having children who are employed in Government/Public sector/Private sector/ Out-sourced/contract;

  • Having children who are Doctors, Contractors, Professionals and Self-employed;

  • Having large business Enterprise (oil mills, rice mills, pumps, rig owners. shop owners etc.);

  • Already receiving Government pensions or freedom pensions;

  • Owners of light and/or vehicles.) heavy automobiles (four-wheelers and big vehicles)

  • Any other criterion in which the verification officer may assess the manner of lifestyle, occupation and possession of assets rendering the household ineligible

The households under the following socio-economic criteria and falling in the above age group and whose annual household income is less than Rs.1.50 lakhs in Rural areas and Rs.2.00 lakhs in Urban areas may be considered for inclusion and hence eligible for a pension, provided they are not in the exclusion list:

  • Primitive and Vulnerable Tribal Groups;

  • Women headed households with no able-bodied earning members;

  • Households having persons with disabilities;

  • In respect of all pensions except disabled and widows, only one member (preferably women) per household shalt be eligible for a pension;

  • Landless agriculture labourers, rural artisans/craftsmen (such as potters, tanners, weavers, blacksmiths, carpenters) slum dwellers, a person earning their livelihood on daily basis in the informal sector like porters, coolies, rickshaw pullers, hand cart pullers, fruit/flower sellers, snake charmers, rag pickers, cobblers, destitute's and other similar categories irrespective of rural or urban areas;

  • Homeless, houseless households residing in temporary informal establishments or huts, especially in urban areas

  • Households headed by widows. or terminally ill persons/disabled persons/persons aged 65 years or more with no assured means of subsistence or societal support and able-bodied earning member

  • Self-employed artisans, hawkers and vendors engaged in petty business

Documents Required for Aasara Pension Scheme in Telangana

Following documents are required for obtaining the Aasara Pension.

  • Photograph

  • Aadhaar number. if Aadhaar number is not available they shall secure one in the next three months

  • Savings Bank account number and IFSC code either from a bank or local post office

  • Age certificate: Any of the following documents

    • Birth certificate issued by a Municipal Authority or any office authorized to issue Birth and Death Certificate by the Registrar of Births & Deaths.

    • School leaving certificate / Secondary School leaving certificate / Certificate of Recognized Boards from the school last attended by the applicant or any other recognized educational institution.

    • Electoral roll. 

  • Death certificate in case of widows. (Where death certificate is not available, the Panchayat Secretary shall conduct a detailed enquiry and submit a report. However, the death certificate shall be obtained in the next three months and uploaded to the online system).

  • SADAREM Certificate in case of persons With disabilities 40% or above and 51% in respect of the hearing impaired.

How to Apply for Aasara Pension Scheme in Telangana?

Follow the below steps to apply for the Aasara Pension scheme.

  • Applicants can get the application form for the Aasara Pension scheme from MeeSeva Centre near to you or the official website of panchayat or municipal corporation

  • Fill out the application form and attach all required documents.

  • Submit the application to the Gram Panchayat Secretary / Village Revenue Officer in the rural area and Bill Collector in Urban area;

  • The Gram Panchayat Secretary in rural areas and the Bill Collector in the Urban areas are entrusted with the task of verifying these applications and certifying them;

  • The designated Mandal Parishad Development Officer / Municipal Commissioner/ Deputy Zonal Commissioner Officer shall scrutinize the verified applications, to assess their eligibility and sanction them a pension based on the guidelines given time to time by the Government.

Pension Disbursement

Disbursement of pension happens from 1st to 7th of every month.

  • Visit Aasaara portal

  • Click on Quick Search. Select "Search Pensioner Details" from there

  • On the next page, you can search either by Pensioner ID or SADAREM ID or by giving relevant details about the person.
